Story
Claire Beauchamp Randall, a nurse during World War II, is mysteriously transported back in time to Scotland in 1743. There she meets a dashing mountaineer warrior and finds herself embroiled in an epic uprising. Moore (the series’ developer), his team decided to preserve the Gaelic words rather than translate them into English. This supported the first-person narrative, showing Claire’s inability to understand Gaelic.
The theme music changes from season to season to reflect what is happening in the storyline
The idea was suggested by producer David Brown, who said he had seen something similar in Skin Deep (1998), a foreign alternative film starring actor and singer Gustavo Goulart. In several episodes, the characters say “OK”, an American term that was not used until the 19th century. In the first half of season 2 (which takes place in France), some of the text is in French. In the second half of season 2 (which is mostly devoted to preparing for war), a bellicose drum beat is added to the opening theme.

Season 3 adds tribal drums, since most of the season takes place in the West Indies. Season 4 adds bluegrass fiddle and banjo, and some of the lyrics are sung in a southern accent, since the season is mostly set in America. I discovered this show late and managed to binge-watch through season 7 in a month.
But oh my gosh, the beginning of season 3 was boring
The first two seasons feel like a completely different show, they keep me on the edge of my seat and hungry for another show. I know a lot of people don’t like Richard, but damn, I love him as Roger, he just brings realism to the character for me. Sophie seems like an acting student trying too hard to play a spoiled brat. Her walls are painful to look at, and there’s no chemistry between her and Richard, and who the hell was that horrible accent?
